Schenectady County has had a strong ultimate frisbee community. This includes hosting the location of one of the oldest continuous tournaments Ow My Knee since 1985 at Maalwyck Park, Scotia. This includes over two decades of the regularly attended SCUFF and Nisky pickup groups. This includes over two decades of the Union College team ECP. More recent strongholds for youth have been developed in the Niskayuna School district with expansion efforts at the Boys & Girls Club of Schenectady to provide equitable access to the sport. We hope to continue expanding into the Schenectady, Scotia-Glenville, and other school districts with the help of our community members coaching and guiding these youth players. In addition to player and coach clinics and practices, SCoUT is also providing more competitive adult playing opportunities to encourage development of top end talent. It does not matter your current experience with ultimate, even if that is none – if you want to intentionally improve or contribute to this sport, you are welcome to join.
Sure, we are teaching ultimate because we enjoy the sport, want to see it grow in size and skill, and want our community members to be successful and recognized in the sport. But we are more importantly using ultimate as a vessel to build strong relationships, transfer life skills, and make a meaningful impact in our local and greater community.
